PoemCity 2018

MONTPELIER, VT — The Kellogg-Hubbard Library is putting out a call for poetry submissions for PoemCity 2018. Submissions will be accepted November 15, 2017 through February 1st, 2018. Selected poems will be displayed in shop windows throughout downtown Montpelier during the month of April. In addition to the text display, PoemCity features poetry/art installations, poetry-related workshops, and readings. Last year, the PoemCity calendar included 35 events.

PoemCity 2018 is a presentation of Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Poetry submissions are open to Vermonters of all ages. Submission Guidelines Below.

Submission Guidelines

If you are a Vermont resident or VCFA student or alum who would like to submit your work for consideration, please adhere to the following guidelines:

1.  Deadline: February 1, 2018

2.  Please send 1 to 3 poems as MS Word attachments.  
     Poems must be submitted as separate documents.

3.  Each poem must not exceed 24 lines.

4.  Please do not resubmit work that was sent for previous Poetry Alive! or PoemCity displays.

5.  Please let us know if the poem was previously published, and tell us where and when it appeared.

6.  Please ensure that you have the rights to offer this poem for publication.  This poem must be your own work.

7.  If you are school-aged, please let us know your age and where you go to school, or let us know if you are home-schooled (optional).

8.  To submit your poems, scroll below and click the SUBMIT button.  It will take you to a screen to add your information, such as:

  • Your email
  • Your name
  • Your city/town of residence
  • Your phone number
  • Your poem title(s) and attachment(s) - one poem per attachment
  • Your school and age (optional)
  • Your VCFA/Norwich affiliation (optional)

By sending your work to PoemCity 2018, you agree to the following:

PoemCity and Kellogg-Hubbard Library may use any poem in the text display, in promotional materials, and associated online, print and other media outlets.

How to Save As an MS Word Document in Other Programs

In Pages for OSX (Mac Office Program):

  • Open the Pages file you want to convert / save as MS Word in Pages.
  • Go to the “File” menu and choose �Export To”, then select “Word��� from the sub-menu list.
  • Click “Next”.
  • Give the new Word file a name, select a destination to save the file to (e.g. Desktop, Documents Folder, etc), and choose “Export”.
  • Your newly created Word file, either in .doc or .docx format, will be saved wherever you specified.
  • Upload file to our online form.

In Pages for iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad App):

  • Open Pages App and select the file you want to convert.
  • Tap the "Share" icon.
  • Choose Word.
  • Email or store online (e.g. iCloud, GoogleDrive, DropBox, etc).
  • When you have access to a PC of Mac, open the file online, select a destination to save the file to (e.g. Desktop, Documents Folder, etc).
  • Upload file to our online form.

In OpenOffice* (PC or Mac):

  • First save your document in OOo's format (.odt).
  • Then click File > Save As.
  • In the Save As drop-down menu, select either type of Word format (we accept .docx and .doc).
  • Click Save.
  • Upload file to our online form.

*OpenOffice is a free word processing program that can be downloaded online if you do not currently own a comprehensive word processing program.  http://www.openoffice.org/download/

If you do not use a computer, we will accept handwritten or typed poems.  *Please only use this option if it is absolutely impossible for you to submit online*  If you elect to submit outside Submittable, errors are more likely to slip into the process.
